Tiger Marks

This post is going to be a little different, today being the 1st of July marks the beginning of one of my favorite bloggers, http://galadarling.com/ 's radical self love july - so for the month of July I'll be posting some other 'self love' kind of posts (still related to beauty, don't worry!)

To start it all off I wanted to make a post about something that I know effects people of all walks of life, all ages, and all shapes and sizes - stretch marks.

As someone who's nearly six foot, and has gained and lost and gained and lost weight across my teenage years, I do have them - not badly luckily, my worst ones are on my back from when I had a massive growth spurt at around thirteen.

Growing up, all I ever heard about these marks was that anyone who had them must be sad because of them and they were ugly and they needed to be g.o.n.e.
Now that I'm a little older, I see that nearly everyone has them, and I encourage everyone to just accept their own tiger marks, because it's like having your own individual unique tattoos (tattoos that no one else can copy!)

Truth is though, if you're getting stretch marks from gaining weight/changing shape/growing taller, they can be uncomfortable, and can be red and angry. But there's heaps of products out there made to help this.

Jojoba oil (actually a wax, but we call it oil seeing as it looks like it) is one of my all time favourite things to use on my skin. I get quite bad eczema seasonally and this really helps me calm it down, it's literally a wonder oil. The most amazing thing about it is that it's structure, out of all the compounds found in nature, is the most similar to the sebum that is found in skin. I've found that it works really well and is worth investing in.
Jojoba oil is also good for fine lines, and dry skin, as it helps moisturise the skin.

Another great tip is to use a coffee scrub like frank, or babe, it's been shown time and time again that these types of scrubs help to reduce the marks to white, or silver.

You'd never know it, but lemon juice also works wonders to help fade them a little, this works well on all sorts of scars, such as acne scars, and operation scars.

And lastly, remember, they are scars. Which means that they're probably never going to leave you, but they do make you an individual - just like any scars. And when in doubt, remember that NASA has observed that the moon has stretch marks, if it's good enough for the moon it's good enough for you!

Love as always! x
